All students, matriculated and non-degree, may audit any course other than a laboratory, provided attendance in the course does not involve the use of consumable material and/or equipment. Auditors will be charged regular tuition. Audited courses cannot be used to qualify for full-time or part-time status, financial aid, or veteran's benefits AUD - graded courses carry no credits, but auditors must fulfill the instructor's requirements for auditors. AUD - graded courses should not be confused with courses graded "No Credit." To register as an auditor, prior written permission of the instructor and the appropriate department chair is required. Students may complete the Application to Audit a Course with the appropriate signatures and return the completed form to the Office of the Registrar via email to registrar.office@lehman.cuny.edu. Students may view the Audited Courses Policy online in the Lehman College Catalog.
No change from regular registration to auditing, nor from auditing to regular registration, will be permitted after the regular registration period has ended.
A degree verification is required when a company or third party needs to verify a student's graduation status. The National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) has been authorized to act as our agent for certification of enrollments and degree verifications for students who attended or graduated from Lehman. Companies or Third Parties who wish to submit a degree verification request may log on to the National Student Clearinghouse website.
Through Lehman's Encore Program, New York State residents 60 years and older are permitted to enroll as auditors in Lehman College undergraduate courses on a space-available basis, tuition-free. Senior citizens (Encore students) will not receive academic credit. Individuals enrolling under this program are charged a $65 fee per semester, plus a $15 consolidated fee. Senior citizens who wish to enroll for credit must pay full tuition and fees.
The Office of the Registrar is responsible for enrolling Encore students into their desired courses. Encore registration begins on the first day of the semester and continues through the late registration period. When necessary, departmental consent should be provided to students prior to registration. Academic departments should not register prospective Encore students as this may cause issues with the student’s grading basis and finances, ultimately delaying the grade submission process.
Inquiries regarding Encore registration can be forwarded to the Office of the Registrar email.
Enrollment Verification Letters may be obtained through the Office of the Registrar via email. All requests may be submitted to registrar.office@lehman.cuny.edu. All requests should include the student's first and last name, 8-digit EMPLID, and the respective term(s) that are being requested.

To be eligible for an in-school loan deferment, students must be registered for at least six credits. An in-school deferment request form must be completed each semester while the student remains enrolled at least half time (6 credits or more). Deferment forms may be submitted via email at registrar.office@lehman.cuny.edu for processing. Please note, this request can only be done after the Add/Drop period of the specified semester. For the dates of the Add/Drop period, please view the Academic Calendar.

Students dropping courses will be refunded according to the refund date periods posted on our Academic Calendar. Dropping a course differs from withdrawing from a course in that the course is completely deleted from your record—you do not remain registered for the dropped course. The only way a student receives a 100% tuition refund is when they drop a class before the first day of the semester/session. Once the semester/session begins, you are entitled to a percentage of tuition refund, according to the refund dates listed in the academic calendar for that particular semester/session.
Students who wish to repeat a course in which they earned a passing grade of "D" or higher may initate an eletronic Course Repeat Request online via Lehman 360. For instructions on how to submit a course repeat request, click here. Once the request is submitted/approved, it will be forwarded to the Registrar Office for processing.
Any continuing Lehman College student (has attended Lehman for more than one semester) with a change in residency status or other residency issues may contact us via email at registrar.office@lehman.cuny.edu for assistance. New students should contact the Admissions Office via email at undergraduate.admissions@lehman.cuny.edu if you are an Undergraduate student or graduate.admissions@lehman.cuny.edu if you are a Graduate student.
All enrollment verifications by third parties (employers, loan agencies, insurance companies, government and/or municipal agencies, housing services, etc.) or other third-party agency needing certification of student enrollment and degree verification at Lehman College, please note the following:
- The National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) has been authorized to act as our agent for certification of enrollments and degree verifications for students who attended or graduated from Lehman College. Please direct all requests for certification of attendance or graduation to NSC. Kindly review the Degree Verifications section for further guidance.
- All other verifications forwarded to the Office of the Registrar are reviewed for processing. Any information requested that necessitates another administrative office to verify (i.e. Bursar, Financial Aid, Student Affairs, etc.) must be forwarded to their appropriate office for review and verification of pertinent data and will require additional time for processing. All requests verified through our office have been reviewed and bear the college seal and/or the Senior Registrar’s signature.
Veterans applying for education benefits should contact the Office of Veteran and Student Affairs with a DD214 form. Veterans who wish to apply for military credit should complete the appropriate documents with their office. Veterans may receive up to 8 elective credits, depending on the length of active military service. Students may contact their office via email at veterans.affairs@lehman.cuny.edu.
Withdrawing from a course during the Withdrawal Drop Period means you receive a non-punitive grade of "WD" on your academic record. The percentage of refund during the withdrawal drop period is based on the date of withdrawal. Students can refer to the Academic Calendar published by the Office of the Registrar for each semester/session to determine the refund percentage.
A "WD" grade does not display on the student's academic transcript, nor does this grade carry an academic penalty. However, they are counted as credits attempted for purposes of measuring satisfactory academic progress. The student remains liable for the percentage of tuition based on the date of withdrawal.
Withdrawing from a course during the Withdrawal Period means students receive a non-punitive grade of “W” on your academic record. No refund is involved with a withdrawal. The last day for the withdrawal period is always listed in the Academic Calendar for each semester/session. Students may withdraw from a class(es) via Schedule Builder.
A "W" grade will display on the student's academic transcript, and this grade does not carry an academic penalty. However, they are counted as credits attempted for purposes of measuring satisfactory academic progress. The student remains liable for unpaid tuition.
A grade of "WN" is assigned to students who have not participated in an academically related activity. This grade is assigned by the instructor via the Verification of Enrollment Roster after the third week of classes.
A "WN" grade does not display on the student's academic transcript, nor does this grade carry an academic penalty. However, a WN grade may negatively impact a student's Federal and State Aid.
If a student received a "WD" grade, however, did not participate in an academically related activity, a WN grade will replace the WD grade once the instructor submits their Verification of Enrollment Roster. In addition, if a student receives a WN grade, a student can no longer withdraw from the course to receive a "W" grade, as the WN grade supersedes all other withdrawal grades (W and WD).
A grade of 'WU' is a failure grade given to a student who participated in the class (at least one academic related activity) and stopped participating. This grade is assigned by the instructor to indicate that the student stopped participating in the course before the end of the semester; or as a result of excessive absences for which there is no basis to give a final letter grade of "A to F," and the conditions for a grade of 'INC' do not apply. As of the Fall 2021 term, The WU grade is a nonpunitive grade which will no longer impact their academic record. However, the WU grade will still have a negative impact on students' financial records. If a student wishes to receive credit for the course, it must be repeated with a passing grade of a C- or higher, and remains on the transcript.
A grade of "F" is a failure grade given to a student who completed the class and failed. This grade is assigned for work that in the judgment of the instructor does not deserve college credit. This grade is calculated in the GPA as zero and no credit will be earned. If a student wishes to receive credit for the course, it must be repeated with a passing grade of C- or higher, and remains on the transcript.
A WU grade should never be given in place of an ‘F’ grade. For guidance on WU/F Grades, students may review the CUNY Uniform Grade Glossary, Policies, and Guidelines.
Although WU grades carry no index penalty, they are credits attempted for the purpose of measuring satisfactory academic progress.
