General Admission Questions
HIN 268 is a life-span developmental psychology course. It’s one of the prerequisite courses that students need for admission into the Nursing Program.
You must fill out the HIN permission request form if you would like to request permission to take an HIN course.
You will only be granted permission if you are a Nursing major, pursuing pre-requisites to get into the Nursing program, or you need one of these courses for another Health Sciences major, like Health Services Administration. If you have less than 30 credits, please do not submit this form, you will not be granted permission.

The Generic Nursing programs, traditional and accelerated, are a 75-credit program. The Traditional Generic program is designed to be completed in 2 years. The Accelerated Generic program is designed to be completed in 15 months.
The RN-BSN programs, traditional and online, are a 37.5 credit program, designed to be completed in 2 years.
Pre-licensure / Nursing Program (Traditional & Accelerated)
The Traditional Program is a pre-licensure, full-time, in-person program designed to be completed in 2 years. It begins every fall semester, with students attending classes during both the fall and spring terms.

The Accelerated Generic Program is a pre-licensure, full-time program designed for second-degree seekers. It is completed in 15 months, with classes starting every June and running year-round until the following summer.

Both the Traditional and Accelerated generic nursing program are 75 credits long. The difference is the time in which you complete the program. The traditional generic program is designed to be completed in 2 years, during the fall and spring semesters. While the accelerated generic nursing program is designed to be completed in 15 months. All students start the program during the first summer session straight through the following summer session.

One of the requirements to be eligible for the nursing program is to complete the following pre-requisite courses with a minimum of a C on the first attempt, as we do not consider grades for repeated courses.
You will also need to have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 in your science pre-requisite courses. To view the required pre-requisites, click here.
Currently, there is no expiration date for the prerequisite coursework. We will only consider the grades from your first attempt at each course.

Students who have been dropped or academically dismissed from another nursing program are NOT eligible for admission to the nursing program at Lehman College.
Additionally, students currently enrolled in another nursing program cannot transfer directly into Lehman’s nursing program. Transfer students must:
- Follow the application procedures for the Generic Nursing program, as highlighted on our How to Apply page, and complete all nursing courses required for the Generic Nursing major at Lehman College.
- Submit an official letter from your previous Nursing Department, confirming that you left in good academic standing, to the Nursing Admissions team at nursing.admissions@lehman.cuny.edu as part of your application.

The HESI exam can be taken twice within one admissions cycle. If you do not meet the minimum score requirement in any subject area, you must retake the entire exam. Only one score report will be considered in the admissions process.
Additionally, the HESI exam results are valid for one year.
If you do not pass all subject areas for the HESI exam on the second attempt, then you are welcome to apply to the nursing program the following year. You can take the exam twice for the following application cycle.
If you were admitted to the Traditional Generic program, classes will start at the start of the fall semester.
If you were admitted to the Accelerated Generic program, the first day of classes is the first week of June, following Summer Session 1.
If you have completed all pre-requisite courses AND have 60 credits, ALL Applicants MUST TAKE HESI A2 Examination prior to admissions.

Applicants to the Lehman College BS (Generic and Accelerated) Nursing programs must take the HESI A2 with Critical Thinking.
No, if your iDelcare form was approved for Nursing, this does not mean you have been official accepted into the nursing program. You must submit an application to the Nursing Department and all required documents for consideration to the program.
The Nursing Department at Lehman College has two Generic Programs: Traditional Generic and Accelerated Generic. The Traditional Generic program is tended for students interested in obtaining their first Bachelor of Science in nursing.
The Accelerated Generic program is intended for applicants seeking a second bachelor’s degree in nursing. Applicants interested in this program must have completed a first bachelor’s degree in any area other than nursing.

*We do not accept grades for repeated courses. Only first attempt grades will be considered to determine eligibility for admission to the nursing program.
**Only HIN 269 can be repeated, but students MUST earn at least a “B” in the repeated course.
You are eligible to apply for the Accelerated Generic Nursing Program. This program is intended for applicants who are seeking their Second Bachelor’s Degree. The Accelerated Generic program follows the same coursework as the Traditional Generic program, except that it is 15 months accelerated program.
After completing all basic program requirements students will be invited to participate in a virtual dosage calculation workshop. In person exams will be administered by the Nursing Department on campus.
If you do not pass the dosage calculation exam with a score of 95% or higher on the second attempt, then you will not be eligible for admissions that given year. You are welcome to apply to the nursing program the following year. You will need to complete a new nursing application and go through the admissions process the following year.
The nursing application opens from January 2nd- March 15th of every year.
Yes, you can repeat a course according to the college policy. However, if you fail any pre-requisites course for the nursing program, you won’t be eligible for admission.
No, for undergraduate nursing programs, we don’t need students resume letters of recommendation or an essay.
If you repeated a prerequisite science course in the past, the first grade earned will be considered.
RN - BSN Questions
Yes, Lehman College’s RN-BSN program is open for admissions for fall and spring semester on a rolling admissions basis.
Applicants must have completed an associated degree in Nursing and have an unencumbered RN license in NYS to be eligible to apply for the RN-BSN program. View Here
Applicants cannot apply to the program is they are missing their associated degree in nursing and the RN license.
