Student Spotlight | Aron Rodriguez
Aron Rodriguez, a second-generation Lehman college student and a Lehman Scholars Program participant, was inspired to major in Exercise Science after coaching youth basketball at Lehman Academy – a summer camp for kids. Aaron’s experience helping kids grow their self-confidence through sports opened his eyes to the careers possible with an exercise science degree.

Degrees Offered:
B.S. IN EXERCISE SCIENCE
Study physiological and functional adaptations to human movement and the connection between exercise, fitness, diet and health. Learn how to evaluate health behaviors and risk factors, conduct fitness assessments, write exercise prescriptions, and motivate individuals to modify negative health habits and maintain positive lifestyle behaviors.
A bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science prepares you for a career in the fitness industry, medicine, sports medicine, physical therapy, athletic training, occupational therapy, exercise physiology and many other fields.
Three Concentrations to Choose From:
Exercise and Movement Science
Get your start in fitness fields including personal training, exercise physiology, strength and conditioning and other related disciplines.
Pre-Physical Therapy
Pursue a career in physical therapy with courses that fully prepare you for entry into Doctor of Physical Therapy programs
Pre-Occupational Therapy
Pursue a career in occupational therapy with courses that fully prepare you for entry into Masters of Occupational Therapy programs.
B.S. IN RECREATION EDUCATION
Taught fully online, you’ll learn how to combine theoretical knowledge with practical skills. Explore core concepts in recreation, management, and sports to build a strong foundation for your future career.
Choose between two exciting areas of study:
Exercise and Sports
Learn about exercise physiology, sport psychology, and coaching techniques. Explore how to promote health and well-being through physical activity.
Channel your passion for fitness and sports into a rewarding career in sports coaching, fitness training, and health promotion.
Recreation Management
Dive into the world of parks and recreation management and develop the skills needed to lead and organize recreational programs. Explore the principles of facility management, event planning, and community engagement.
This degree path prepares you for a career in managing recreation spaces, parks, and community programs in public park and recreation agencies, not-for-profit organizations, community recreation centers, camps, and sports associations.

B.S. IN THERAPEUTIC RECREATION
Combine theoretical knowledge and practical skills about recreational activities to help improve quality of life for individuals with illnesses, disabilities and related health concerns. Graduates meet the eligibility requirements for the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) for the Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) credential. With a CTRS, you’ll play vital roles across various settings such as hospitals, nursing homes, schools, adult care programs and many more.
