A $245,000 grant from NY State Empire Development to Lehman College’s School of Health Sciences, Human Services, and Nursing (HS2N) will support new collaborations across several key programs, including the creation of a mental and behavioral telehealth clinic in partnership with the School of Education that will provide pro bono services in The Bronx. It will also equip students with hands-on experience under the supervision of licensed professionals.

"Educating a diverse professional workforce to serve our community is crucial to our mission,” said HS2N Dean Elgloria Harrison. “Our focus on multidisciplinary education ensures that our students learn to deliver holistic care collaboratively while meeting the urgent mental health needs of our community."

This clinic follows the successful model set by the Speech and Hearing Center which provides a number of services to Bronx families.

Grants like these help HS2N create new approaches to training the next generation of mental healthcare providers. Last year, as part of the State’s efforts to increase bilingual mental health and behavioral health workforce, Lehman College received a grant for $133,000 to assist students in social work, clinical mental health counseling, and school counseling. The collaborative effort across the programs for both grants showcases the impact teamwork can have on innovation, further enhancing the School’s approach to experiential learning.

These external grants from funders like the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Department of Education, and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, solidify the School of Health Sciences, Human Services, and Nursing as a leader in health and human service research and scholarship.
