‘PAPI’ NOVEL WRITER AND MOVIE DIRECTOR TO SCREEN FILM

The Bronx, NY—Named one of the 100 most influential Latino personalities by El País, Rita Indiana, author of the novel, Papi, comes to Lehman College with Director Noelia Quintero Herencia, to screen and talk about the movie based on the book on Thursday, September 28 at 6:00 pm in the College’s Lovinger Theatre as part of the college’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
The Dominican film follows a young girl, consumed by elaborate daydreams as she awaits a visit from her absent father, a Dominican mobster whom she idolizes. (Watch the trailer)

Papi Director Noelia Quintero Herencia is a filmmaker, researcher, and screenwriter. She has worked as a television producer and director in Mexico, New York, Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico where she created more than 52 documentaries for the TV series Prohibido Olvidar featuring Puerto Rican cultural icons. She has been developing and directing music videos and content for Dominican writer and composer, Rita Indiana. Papi is her first feature film.
Rita Indiana is a Dominican writer, performer, and cultural icon. She has been highly recognized and awarded on the Caribbean literary scene, and her viral music success has made Indiana a household name in the Dominican Republic and the Latinx community in the US where she is popularly referred to as “La Monstra” (the monster). This event is organized by the Department of Latin American and Latino Studies in collaboration with the Offices of the President, Provost and Dean of Arts & Humanities with co-sponsorship from the Mexican Studies Institute, the Leonard Lief Library and the Departments of English, Journalism, Languages and Literatures, and Women’s and Gender Studies.
