March 15, 1942 – July 3, 2024

David Joseph Rothchild, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and teacher, passed away peacefully at his home in Riverdale, NY on July 3, 2024. Born on March 15, 1942, David was a true New Yorker through and through, his life and legacy deeply interwoven with the community he loved and served.

David’s early years were shared with his brother, Bob, on the Upper West Side, where he worked on construction sites with his father during a few summers. David graduated from The Bronx High School of Science, class of 1958, and then from City College of New York, after which he went on to pursue his passion for teaching math. He ultimately secured a position at CUNY–Lehman College. Professionally, David was a cornerstone of the math department at Lehman and kept his position as a beloved faculty member for over 50 years. His dedication to his students and love of math were evident in the hours he spent advising, tutoring, and making his students laugh.

David cherished his roles as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. For him, the best times in life were those he spent with the people he loved. He is survived by his wife, Helen Corcoran, his daughters, Meryl and Joanna, and their mother, Helen Rothchild, and his four grandchildren, Bruna, Andrew, Logan, and Mia. David was a beacon of love for his family and those who were fortunate to have him in their lives. His legacy will continue to inspire, and his memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

The Lehman College Foundation is currently accepting donations in tribute to David Joseph Rothchild, which will be granted to students pursuing a major in mathematics under his name. Your contribution is greatly valued. Please click on the "donate now" button to complete your donation.
