The Lehman College & Community Band celebrates the season with “Holiday Extravaganza” a concert featuring a mix of holiday selections and classics for wind band. This event is free and open to the public on Sunday, December 15, at 2:00 p.m. in the Lovinger Theatre.

Led by Professor Alan Hollander of the Music Program, the ensemble will perform a wide range of works, including perennial holiday favorites like, Christmas Festival and Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson, a medley of traditional Hanukah tunes entitled Festive Sounds of Hanukah arranged by Bill Holcombe, and the lively Dreidel Dance by Robert Thurston.

Norman Rockwell Suite by Hayato Hirose offers a slice of Americana, inspired by three of Rockwell’s famous paintings. Also presented will be Morton Gould’s vibrant and energetic arrangement of Jingle Bells, the rock-and-roll themed You Better Sleigh! by JaRod Hall, as well as other favorites of the concert band repertoire including James Barnes’ expressive and lyrical Concertino for Bassoon, featuring the band’s longtime principal bassoonist, Shotaro Mori.

Rounding out the program will be a humorous medley by David Lovrien entitled Minor Alterations: Christmas Through the Looking Glass, a game of musical hide-and-seek for the audience, in which familiar Christmas carols are transposed from major to minor keys then disguised and layered to create something new and innovative.
