Elhum Haghighat, Ph.D.
Degrees: B.A., Rutgers University; M.A., University of Texas Arlington; Ph.D., University of Maryland, College Park - Maryland Population Research Center (MPRC)/Center for Population, Gender & Social Inequality.
Areas of Scholarship: Political and Contextual Demography; Development and Democratization; Gender Politics; Middle East & North Africa.
Dr. Haghighat is Professor and Chair of the Political Science Department at Lehman College and faculty member of the CUNY's Graduate Center. Her research is interdisciplinary and focuses on Demography (intersectionality of politics & demography, contextual demography), Development & Democratization, Politics of Inequality and Social Stratification, Gender and Social Justice. In addition, she has a continued interest in the nexus between education, work and social mobility. Her regions/countries of expertise are the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) and the United States.
