Elhum Haghighat, Ph.D.​

Degrees: B.A., Rutgers University; M.A., University of Texas Arlington; Ph.D., University of Maryland, College Park - Maryland Population Research Center (MPRC)/Center for Population, Gender & Social Inequality. 

Areas of Scholarship: Political and Contextual Demography; Development and Democratization; Gender Politics; Middle East & North Africa.

Dr. Haghighat ​​​​is Professor and Chair of the Political Science Department at Lehman College and faculty member of the CUNY's Graduate Center. Her research is interdisciplinary and focuses on Demography (intersectionality of politics & demography, contextual demography), Development & Democratization, Politics of Inequality and Social Stratification, Gender and Social Justice. In addition, she has a continued interest in the nexus between education, work and social mobility. Her regions/countries of expertise are the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) and the United States.
