Jamel Holmes

Jamel Holmes is a dedicated and accomplished educator who has built an impressive career grounded in his commitment to supporting students and fostering their holistic development. His academic journey reflects his deep passion for education and leadership.

Jamel began his educational pursuits at Borough of Manhattan Community College, earning an Associate in Science in Early Childhood Education with a specialization in Preschool in 2012. He then obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies, specializing in Human Services, from City College in 2015. Recognizing the importance of serving diverse learners, he completed a Master of Science in Education in Special Education at Lehman College in 2019, specializing in Special Education for Childhood. Jamel further advanced his leadership skills by earning a second Master of Science in Education in Educational Leadership with a specialization as a School Building Leader in 2021. His commitment to continuous growth culminated in an Advanced Certificate in Advanced Educational Leadership with a specialization as a School District Leader in 2022, also from Lehman College.

As a Special Education Adjunct at Lehman College, Jamel teaches a range of graduate-level courses, including:

  • EDS 704: Curriculum and Instructional Practices for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Young Children with Special Needs
  • EDS 709: Curriculum and Instructional Practices for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Childhood Students
  • EDS 717: Practicum in Assessment of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Adolescents with Disabilities

In addition to his academic achievements and teaching, Jamel serves as an Administrator for NYC Public Schools, collaborating with students, educators, and community organizations to provide comprehensive support to Bronx students.

Currently pursuing a Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership, Development, and Change at Lehman College, Jamel's research focuses on the challenges and success stories of Black educators in leadership positions within NYC Public Schools. By highlighting these narratives, he aims to inspire transformative change and contribute to a more equitable educational landscape.

Jamel's dedication to mentorship, connection-building, and creating impactful events underscores his mission to uplift students and educators in the Bronx and beyond. His work reflects a lifelong commitment to empowering communities through education and leadership.
