Information for Prospective Interns
The Lehman College DI is a full-time 12-month program and follows the Lehman College graduate school academic calendar (Fall, Spring, Summer).
Use this schedule to guide you in applying to the Lehman College Dietetic Internship Program.
Utilize resources on eatright.org: Academy Resources for Students. There are many resources to learn about the profession, different types of internships and the application process. Prospective interns are highly encouraged to attend Dietetic Information Sessions and Open Houses.
DICAS opens for Herbert H. Lehman College, CUNY.
Submit the completed Dietetic Internship application package to the DICAS portal. Acceptance is competitive and based on consideration of undergraduate and graduate GPA, grades in clinical nutrition courses, work/volunteer experience, and recommendations.
Application notification due date. This is the last date directors can notify applicant of acceptance to program.
Applicant decision due date. This is the last date for an applicant to accept an offer. Notify DI Director, Marina Stopler, MS, RD, IBCLC.
Second round opens.
Accepted interns will be contacted by the Dietetic Internship Director and the MS Nutrition degree advisor with information relating to applying to the Graduate Program to be able to register for Supervised Professional Practice (DFN 730) and Concepts and Methods of Dietetics Practice (DFN 731). Other graduate courses may be required to complete the DI (will vary by student and degree; refer to intern handbook). Depending on the graduate degree status of the intern, interns can apply to the graduate program as a non-degree student or degree student.
Register for applicable summer classes such as DFN 661 – Food Service Management and fall classes, Supervised Professional Practice (DFN 730) and Concepts and Methods of Dietetics Practice (DFN 731).
DI Orientation. Interns placed in supervised practice sites.
Fall didactic classes begin. Interns take DFN 651 - Medical Nutrition Therapy as a cohort.
Register for Supervised Professional Practice (DFN 730) and Concepts and Methods of Dietetic Practice (DFN 731) for spring semester.
Spring classes begin. Continuation of DFN 730, DFN 731 and applicable didactic class(es) such as DFN 637 – Nutrition Counseling and DFN 641 – Public Health and Community Nutrition.
Register for Supervised Professional Practice (DFN 730) and Concepts and Methods of Dietetic Practice (DFN 731) for summer semester.
Continue DFN 730 and DFN 731. RD exam study.
Exit Exam. Complete Dietetic Internship Program. RD Exam study.
DI Verification Statement - Issued when DI requirements are completed and when original transcript with MS degree confer date is received. RD Exam study.
Upon approval of CDR, intern graduates ready to sit for CDR Exam. Intern graduates recommended to sit for the CDR Exam within three months of date of DI Verification Statement.
Graduation and Program Completion Requirements
To receive a Dietetic Internship Verification Statement, interns must complete all the dietetic internship requirements and have a MS degree. An official transcript with the MS degree confer date will be required before paperwork is submitted to CDR..
