Welcome to LUTE-STEM Program

Lehman Urban Transformational Education-Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (LUTE STEM), a Teacher Quality Partnership (TQP) funded by the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE), is designed to prepare and support teachers in high-needs schools in the Bronx.

LUTE STEM, Lehman’s second USDOE-sponsored urban residency program, graduated 64 residents and resident interns. We recruited candidates who met admission requirements for one of their master’s programs in education. Each cohort was a diverse group of high-achieving individuals who participated in a year-long paid residency at high-need partner schools in the Bronx, New York. At their assigned schools, they were required to complete a minimum of 15 hours per week assisting a host teacher during the fall semester followed by full-time student teaching during the spring semester.
LUTE STEM began in 2019, launching its first cohort in fall 2020. Over its five years, the program proudly prepared its residents to be teachers through its fourth and final cohort in June 2024. Residents and resident interns accepted into LUTE STEM were expected to be on track to complete their master’s course of study; qualify for a NYSED teaching certificate by completing all required assessments and workshops; and earn a computer science education micro-credential by the end of the summer following their residency.
