Biography

Hank Williams regularly teaches Contemporary Urban Writers and has also taught Multicultural American Literature and Advanced Expository Writing. He is also affiliated with and teaches in Lehman’s Africana Studies Department. He is completing his PhD dissertation on The Last Poets, a collective of politically committed artists that’s been active since the 1960s.

His research areas of specialty are the Black Arts and Black Power Movements of the 1960s-1970s; African American Literature; literary connections with music--particularly Jazz, Blues, and Hip Hop; and African Centered Thought.

He is also a journalist with a focus on contemporary and avant garde Jazz and is a producer with the Suga’ in My Bowl Jazz radio show which airs on WBAI Radio (99.5 FM) in New York City.

Professional Affiliations include the Association for the Study of Classical African Civilizations (ASCAC), National Council for Black Studies, Jazz Journalists’ Association.
