As Fulbright Specialist, Lehman Nursing’s Elizabeth Simon to Advance Student Assessment in Vietnam

February 9, 2026

Associate Professor of Nursing Elizabeth Simon, who was named a Fulbright Specialist, will travel to Vietnam in March for a six-week project at Hai Duong Medical Technical University (HMTU) that could fundamentally change how nursing students are tested and evaluated. This marks her third appointment in a Fulbright program.

As a Fulbright Specialist, Simon will work with HMTU’s nursing faculty to strengthen how student learning is assessed, especially the ability to connect classroom knowledge with real-world clinical practice. The project will help HMTU expand beyond multiple-choice exams and highly subjective clinical evaluations toward a more consistent and comprehensive evaluation framework that better supports student growth.

The project may also foster lasting ties between HMTU Lehman College by laying the foundation for faculty visits, joint research projects, and professional development programs.

Simon's previous Fulbright appointments include a 2015–2016 Fulbright-Nehru U.S. Scholar award and a 2022–2023 teaching-focused project, both in India. Together, they centered on nursing curriculum development and raising the visibility of the profession.
