In Loving Memory of Cecelia Beirne ’68
Cecelia Beirne ’68 was a proud alumna of Hunter College in the Bronx—renamed Lehman College in 1968—where she earned her B.A. in Mathematics. Throughout her life, she remained deeply grateful to her alma mater for broadening her perspective and nurturing the intellectual curiosity and skills that shaped her into the person she became.
Ms. Beirne held a profound appreciation for the education she received and took great pride in giving back through The Last Mile Scholarship. Her enduring commitment to the Herbert H. Lehman College Foundation included establishing an endowed fund to support undergraduate students pursuing degrees in nursing or education, as well as seniors facing financial challenges in their final semester. Through this generosity, she created lasting opportunities for students to achieve their dream of earning a college degree.
Her distinguished career spanned education and finance. After graduation, she joined V.I.S.T.A., working for four years on criminal justice reform. She then taught secondary school mathematics for more than a decade in New York City and Westchester County. In 1985, after earning her MBA from Baruch College, she began a successful career in structured finance that lasted over 25 years. She also dedicated her time as a volunteer with the International Rescue Committee, counseling asylees and refugees about educational opportunities within City University of New York.
The Lehman College Foundation is currently accepting donations in tribute to Cecelia. Your contribution in her memory will continue her legacy of empowering students through education.
We at Lehman College are profoundly grateful for Cecelia Beirne’s generosity, vision, and unwavering dedication to student success. Her legacy will live on in the lives she continues to uplift.
