Join us for a discussion on ballroom culture in NYC led by Ricky Tucker, author of And the Category Is... Inside New York's Vogue, House, and Ballroom Community followed by a hands-on workshop on the ins and outs of vogue facilitated by Felix Luar of the House of Luar.
Ricky Tucker is a writer, educator, and culture critic based in NYC. His work explores the imprints of Art and Memory on narrative, and the absurdity of most fleeting moments. His L.A. Times best-selling debut, And The Category Is... Inside New York's Vogue, House, and Ballroom Community was one of Pitchfork's 15 Best Music Books of 2022, and a finalist for the 2023 Lambda Literary Award in Gay Non-fiction.
Felix (He/Him) is a multidisciplinary artist, voguer, and community organizer based in New York City. A first-generation Dominican-American from Washington Heights, he grew up navigating the tensions of immigrant life and Queer identity. As a member of the international legendary Elite House of Bodega, Felix competes in the Butch Queen Vogue Fem Category, drawing from ballroom as both an artistic discipline and a cultural lineage that informs his work. In 2024, he founded the House of Luar, a cultural collective that uplifts and celebrates the queer Caribbean, Hispanic, and Afro-Latinx diaspora through performance, nightlife, and collaborative creation. His recent projects include La Pafarería Mini Ball - the first Spanish-language mini ball in New York.
