Alena Mahas is an ASHA-certified Speech-Language Pathologist with over 13 years of experience. She began her doctoral studies in Audiology before discovering her true passion for working with children.

After gaining experience across 8 agencies as both a Clinical Fellow and a licensed SLP, she founded Speech Kids NY to foster a more supportive and flexible environment for therapists.

Originally from Belarus, Alena moved to the United States at age 19 and is fluent in six languages. She specializes in bilingual speech therapy and is deeply committed to mentoring new graduates entering the field.

Through Speech Kids NY, Alena leads a multilingual team providing speech therapy services across school-based, preschool-based, private, and remote settings. The organization currently works with over 50 therapists across New York City, upstate New York, and Maryland, with plans for continued expansion into additional states.

The team collectively speaks 10 languages, enabling them to serve diverse communities effectively. The agency is also proud to offer highly competitive compensation in the Bronx and has developed proprietary billing software to streamline administrative tasks and reduce provider workload.

Event's Agenda:

  • Key considerations when working with agencies
  • Pros and cons of working in NYC agencies, the NYC DOE, hospitals, and private practices
  • Bilingual therapy: bilingual extension and BEA requirements
  • Supervision models for Clinical Fellows
  • Understanding and evaluating employment contracts
  • Choosing a specialty within speech-language pathology

Hope to see you there.
