Biography

Jose Cao-Alvira

José Julián Cao Alvira is a Professor of Finance and Economics at Lehman College, CUNY. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Cornell University and has professional designations as a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Financial Risk Manager (FRM). He also earned an M.S. in Information Systems and Data Analytics from Baruch College. Professor Cao Alvira teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in areas such as Corporate Finance, Investments, and Econometrics, and has been a visiting professor in various research centers globally. A Fulbright U.S. Research Scholar, he has served on the Fulbright Foundation’s Peer Review Committee and as a mentor for the Fulbright Commission in Colombia. His research focuses on investment analysis, international economics, and general equilibrium models, with publications in leading journals like Financial Management and the Journal of International Financial Management and Accounting. He has held several administrative roles, most recently as Associate Dean for the School of Natural and Social Sciences at Lehman College, overseeing 11 departments and supporting over 4,200 students. At the University of Puerto Rico, he was Director of the Ph.D. program in Business Administration and Chair of the Graduate School of Business, where he facilitated AACSB accreditation.
