Biography
Dr. Tamar is a college instructor, field consultant, and applied developmental psychologist committed to advancing equity and excellence in education. With experience as a former school administrator and special education teacher, Dr. Brown brings a wealth of practical knowledge to her work mentoring in-service teachers. She focuses particularly on supporting first-year educators as they develop the skills necessary to foster inclusive and dynamic learning environments.
Dr. Brown's research, recognized by the American Educational Research Association (AERA), examines the impact of violent music lyrics on adolescent boys' behaviors. This work highlights her contributions to understanding media influences on youth development and informs her broader efforts to promote evidence-based interventions.
Currently, Dr. Brown serves on the APA Board of Educational Affairs (BEA) Task Force on Ethnic and Racial Disparities in PreK-12 Education. She also consults nationwide with school districts to enhance special education services, ensuring equitable support for diverse learners.
Beyond her work in education, Dr. Brown collaborates with local elders to teach young people practical skills, such as sewing, that can help them achieve gainful employment after high school.
