I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Lehman College. Prior to coming to Lehman, I was a postdoctoral research scientist at the Center on Poverty and Social Policy at Columbia University from 2016 - 2018. I received my Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Washington in 2016.
My research focuses on poverty and inequality. As a quantitative sociologist, I conduct my research using data visualization, modeling, and microsimulation methods. I have published articles that investigate the sources of poverty differences across U.S. states, employment inequality in the public sector, and unemployment among Mexican immigrants. My research has been published in Demography, Social Science Research, and American Sociological Review.
I teach SOC 301 (Methods of Social Research). The best way to contact me is through email: jennifer.laird@lehman.cuny.edu
