Coordinator

Ainsley Parkinson, Ph.D
Ainsley is an immigrant from Jamaica, WI, who attended Dewitt Clinton High School in the Bronx (near Lehman and Bronx High School of Science). After graduating, he attended SUNY Binghamton and received a BS in Biochemistry. He later received his Masters from Lehman College in Biology and his Ph.D in Plant Sciences from the CUNY Graduate center. As a Ph.D graduate student he received a NIH fellowship for his doctoral research on plants, specifically, Blighia Sapida, the ackee plant, whose fruit is part of the national dish of Jamaica (Ackee and Saltfish). During this doctoral tenure he was the activity coordinator for the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation in Science (LSAMP) and a part-time SLC cooordinator. Dr. Parkinson, is the Coordinator for SLC, and supervised all admin staff, tutors, and workshop facililators; and organized all tutoring and workshop offerings through the SLC. He, in collaboration with the LTC, offers several academic support workshops, specifically through the LTC (a sister center under ISSP), and content review science workshops through the SLC. Dr. Parkinson offers and facilitates the Dosage Calculation workshops, which prepares nursing students for the dosage test - prior to them entering the nursing program. The Prep sessions (3 days, virtual) is done through collaboration with the Nursing Program. Dr. Parkinson also collaborates with several departments to ensure the success of their students, especially when students are struggling, and provide referrals to various departments, programs, and offices for them to assist students, so they can provide them with solutions and support for both their short-term and long-term academic and non-academic needs.
