Admission Requirements
To be eligible to apply to the MA in Speech Language Pathology at Lehman you must submit
- BA or BS in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology or the equivalent. If you have a degree in another area you must complete the necessary pre-requisite courses before you apply:
- Introduction to Audiology
- Articulatory Phonetics
- Anatomy & Physiology of the Speech Mechanism
- Language Acquisition)
- Speech & Hearing Science
- Speech Pathology: Functional Disorders or Speech Path: Organic Disorders or Communication Disorders Across the Lifespan or an equivalent
- Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended
- Have attained a bachelor’s degree or its foreign equivalent from an accredited college or university
- Have attained a minimum overall of 3.0 and a minimum G.P.A of 3.5 in the major or in the prerequisite course
- Two letters of recommendation from professors. One letter must be from a professor from a speech pathology/audiology course.
- An essay of no more than 500 words:
Describe how your lived experiences, education, background, and interests have influenced who you are as a person. How do your experiences align with the Lehman College Speech Language Hearing Sciences mission, and the Lehman College mission and values?

6. Proficiency in spoken and written English is required for admissions. This requirement applies to all applicants for whom English is not their native language, including international students, permanent residents, and citizens. Applicants, who are non-native speakers of English, must demonstrate proficiency of English through the following:

- Achieving a passing score on the International Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
- Completion of a B.A., M.A, or Ph.D. degree from an accredited college or university where English is the primary language of instruction
- Passing an interview, exhibiting English oral skills adequate for student success in academic coursework and clinical placements in the graduate program

- If you do not have the pre-requisite courses and have a degree in another field, consider enrolling in the Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Speech Language Program at Lehman College. - If you are in the process of taking the pre-requisite courses, you may apply if you have completed 4 of the required courses and the final two are listed on your transcripts.
- It is not required for admission, but it is suggested you have completed the 25 observation hours required by ASHA and the ASHA required courses https://www.asha.org/certification/course-content-areas-for-slp-standards/. If you have questions, please contact the graduate program director
- Late applications will not be accepted. Application deadlines are as follows:
