  • If you want general advising regarding the BS in Public Health program, please contact Ms. Milagros Tejada at Milagros.Tejada@lehman.cuny.edu and she can provide general advising information on our BS in Public Health program.

The Bachelor of Science in Public Health is a rigorous major that challenges students to think critically and to contribute to health and wellness across communities using health equity and anti-racism frameworks. Our program in public health takes a population health approach, centering analysis and intervention at the population level, rather than at the individual level. Rather than focusing on disease treatment, we focus on creating and sustaining health and social systems that enable populations to maintain good health. Public health students will understand and be able to describe and show how the determinants of health—like access to safe housing, nutritious foods, quality education and living wage jobs—are necessary to enable population health. Students may choose either (1) the public health science or (2) environmental and global health concentration based on their career goals.

Admissions Requirements: GPA standard at “B-” (minimum 2.7 including all prior courses) for admission into the major.

The Lehman College – CUNY Graduate School of Public Health 4+1 Program is a partnership that allows current undergraduate public health majors and minors to apply to an MPH or MS program at SPH once they have completed 60 credits and, if accepted, pursue 3-18 credits of graduate-level courses that will dually apply to undergraduate requirements. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required. Current majors and minors should schedule an appointment with their faculty advisor to discuss interest. Students are also encouraged to attend open houses at the CUNY SPH: https://sph.cuny.edu/academics/degrees-and-programs/4plus1-programs/.

Yes, you can do a minor in public health if you are not majoring in Public Health. You cannot do both a minor and major in Public Health.
