School of Business Spotlight: Maurice Wilson '26

Headshot of Maurice Wilson

August 18, 2026

Maurice Wilson did everything he thought he was supposed to do to succeed in college: go to class, complete assignments, and earn good grades. But it wasn’t until the business administration and marketing major got involved in student organizations and internship opportunities that new possibilities began to emerge. By interning for Bally’s and Lincoln Hospital, Maurice gained experience far beyond the classroom.

What sparked your interest in business and marketing?

I always wanted to be an entrepreneur, so I knew I was going to study business. Meeting with a business advisor helped me realize I had a passion for marketing.

How did clubs change your path?

At first, I went to school, did the work, and went home. Nobody knew me on campus, and I had not built a community. A student introduced me to Lehman’s chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), and I got involved with the Financial Learning Group and leadership roles. Clubs pushed me out of my shell, helped me meet people, and made me more comfortable talking to others. I built a community, made friends, and found opportunities to grow.

What did internships teach you?

My first internship, through Lehman’s small business internship program, taught me about communication and working professionally with others. At Lincoln Hospital, rotating through divisions changed how I thought about business. At Bally’s, I gained technical skills and saw marketing at work. At the Bronx Economic Development Corporation, I worked on marketing, flyers, and interviews with small businesses. Each helped me see possibilities and develop skills.

How did those experiences help you grow?

I am not the same person I was a year ago. I did not have the same confidence, communication skills, or ability to interact with people. Showing up changed everything. It helped me build confidence and see possibilities I had not seen before. Clubs, along with coursework, opened my eyes to a whole world of possibilities.

Advice for students on the sidelines?

Show up. Even if you do not fully understand what is going on, or it is not your major, show up anyway. You never know who is in the room, who is listening, or what you might gain from the experience.
