Student Email

Lehman Student Email MS 365 Banner

This spring, Lehman College is moving all active students to a new CUNY student email account in Microsoft 365—the same secure email system used by Lehman faculty and staff. While this transition is about student email, access to Microsoft 365 apps (including OneDrive) continues.

This new account will become your official Lehman and CUNY email.

📲A quick overview of what’s changing and what to expect.

Why Microsoft MFA Matters

My Experience as an Early User

💬 What it’s really like to use the new Microsoft 365 email and apps.

You will access your new email using your CUNY Login Account (firstname.lastname##@login.cuny.edu) via Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft 365 Apps.

👉 Use the same username and password you already use for CUNYfirst, Navigate, Brightspace, and others listed on the Login page which is accessed from Lehman homepage.

There is no new username or password to remember.

The transition will take place during Spring Break.

Starting Monday, April 13, all official Lehman and CUNY communications will be delivered ONLY to your new CUNY email account.

  • You will have one mailbox, but it can have multiple email addresses associated with it.

  • You will log in using your CUNY Login Account (firstname.lastname##@login.cuny.edu), which is also one of your email addresses. This single mailbox will also receive all messages sent to any of the student’s college-branded email addresses.

  • Your Lehman College branded email address will be firstname.lastname##@stu-mail.lehman.cuny.eduThis is the address Lehman  will use to contact you and the one you should share with others.

  • If you have a student email address from another CUNY college, that address will continue to work and will deliver messages to the same inbox as your Lehman student email.

  • One place to check email

If by April 13th, you have not completed the Microsoft MFA set up, you will be forced to do so when trying to access your new  mailbox or any of the Microsoft Apps (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, Word, Excel, etc.)

If you have not already done so, set up Microsoft Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) by following the steps described here.

Important to Know

  • When signing in to your new email or Microsoft 365 apps, follow the Microsoft MFA prompts.

  • When signing in to CUNYfirst, Brightspace, Navigate, or other CUNY systems, continue using the same MFA process you already use today. For more information on these two types of MFA processes, see MFA for CUNY Login and Microsoft Office 365.

  • Some students who are also CUNY employees may have already completed Microsoft MFA. If so, no additional action will be required. Your employee email address is one of the email addresses associated with the single mailbox.

  • Most users will only see Microsoft MFA prompts when signing in from a new device or browser.
  • Until further notice, messages sent to older student email addresses (firstname.lastname@lc.cuny.edu) will still reach students in the new mailbox (firstname.lastname##@stu-mail.lehman.cuny.edu)

  • If you have logged into your “firstname.lastname@lc.cuny.edu” email account within the past 9 months, your mailbox content will be automatically migrated to your new account. In sum, the content from students' old college-based email account (firstname.lastname@lc.cuny.edu) will be copied to the new CUNY email account (firstname.lastname##login.cuny.edu). Mailbox content for the Spring 2026 semester will be copied first for all students. We will then proceed with previous content.

Note for Old Mail to New Mailbox Image

  • Until further notice, your previous mailbox (firstname.lastname@lc.cuny.edu) is available to you and you should continue to use it until the mailbox is copied.

The following information will be copied to the new MS 365 Mailbox Account:
  • Emails: All email content, including folder structure and attachments.

  • Calendars: Events, attendees, and recurrence patterns.

  • Contacts: User contact information.
  • Email Rules: Mail redirects, blocking rules, and other mailbox rules.

  • Auto-reply Settings: Out-of-office replies and other automatic response configurations.

  • Time Zones: Preserves the correct time zone settings for the mailbox.

What is Not Copied (Limitations):
  • Encrypted Emails: Cannot be detected and are migrated unreadable.

  • Folder Permissions: Permissions for folders are not preserved during the migration.

  • Reference Attachments: Links to documents on OneDrive (like OneDrive for Business) are not preserved.

  • Scheduled Emails: Future-scheduled emails are copied as drafts, not with their scheduled send time.
