Assistant Professors Di Wu and Jin Pyone, both in the School of Business, are among 35 Black, Race, and Ethnic Studies (BRES) faculty fellows for the 2024-2025 academic year. Funded by a Mellon Foundation grant, the BRES initiative supports faculty and graduate student fellows conducting innovative research in Black, race, and ethnic studies.

The fellowship will support Wu, assistant professor of Finance, Information Systems, and Economics, in his project titled "Reflective Writing with AI Assistance in Information Science Classrooms for DEI."  Pyone, assistant professor of Management and Business Innovation, is using it to support her research on hiring practices,"Breaking Barriers: Investigating the Role of Positive Affect in Mitigating Hiring Bias Against Minority Groups."

This year's BRES faculty fellows represent 16 disciplines and hail from 14 campuses across CUNY. Fellows participate in the CUNY BRES Collaboration Hub—an intellectual home for convening faculty and students interested in multidisciplinary research. The faculty fellowships include $5,000 or a course release, which provides additional time for research.

Thanks to a recent $5 million grant from Mellon under the BRES initiative, CUNY is developing New York's first doctoral and master's degree programs in Black, race, and ethnic studies.
