Department of Social Work
From the Chair, Dr. Brenda Williams-Gray,
Welcome to the Department of Social Work, where we are committed to preparing students in the undergraduate and graduate programs in Social Work. Our dedicated faculty are here to help you reach your personal goals. We are always available for questions or advising. Please feel free to reach out directly to our program directors that are listed under each of our programs.
Mission
The Mission of Social Work is highly reflective of the mission of the college and the school, where we embody the ideals of the Lehman Principles to Educate, Empower, Engage. The Department of Social Work at Lehman College offers programs leading to a B.A. with a major in Social Work or a Masters of Social Work (M.S.W.) degree. The undergraduate social work program has been fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education since 1983. The M.S.W. program admitted its first group of students in 2005 and has been fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education since February 2008. Both programs prepare ethical, competent and knowledgeable social workers for work in social service agencies and organizations serving urban populations.
Aspiration
We aspire to produce graduates who are well able to practice social work in a variety of urban settings. We are especially proud of students who graduate with their Bachelor of Social Work and the Master of Social Work.
