B.F.A. in Multimedia Performing Arts

(58 credits)
The B.F.A. in Multimedia Performing Arts program prepares multidisciplinary actors and dancers to create for the stage, film, television, and new media. This intensive program is for those who envision a career as a practitioner in theatre, dance, film, tv, and related media.

B.A. in Theatre

The B.A. in Theatre combines study in acting, dance, stagecraft, playwriting, theatre history, and drama with practical experience in producing, technical theatre, and arts management. Students can choose from three tracks:

Performance (37 credits)
Technical Theatre, Production, and Design (42 credits)
Dramatic Literature, Theatre History and Theory (40 credits)

B.A. in Dance

(43 credits)
Undergraduate Dance majors study technique, improvisation, choreography, and dance history, while also gaining practical experience in producing, technical theatre, and arts management. The curriculum covers a wide range of dance techniques including modern dance, street styles, Latin dance, ballet, and African dance. The Dance B.A. can be combined with a major in Education for students interested in pursuing teacher certification.

The Performing Arts Management Minor is designed to prepare students for administrative opportunities in the professional performing arts industry. The curriculum equips students with skills and knowledge required for entry-level administrative work in the performing arts. After completing THE 348 Performing Arts Management, an accounting course, and an internship, students choose a 3-credit focus on either Fundraising and Development or Social Media and Marketing.

After taking THE 208 Acting 1, students choose 9 additional credits in theatre, 6 of those credits at the 300 or 400-level. In consultation with a Theatre advisor, courses can be selected from categories such as directing, acting for the camera, multimedia production and design, theatre history, dramatic literature, and/or playwriting.

The Dance Minor consists of DNC 235 Dance Perspectives, which fulfills the General Education Flexible Core: Creative Expression category, plus 9 additional credits in dance, 6 of those credits at the 300 or 400-level. Courses can be chosen from categories such as choreography, improvisation, history, body and wellness, and a range of dance techniques – from street styles and social dance to West African and concert dance.

The Mind-Body Wellness Minor invites students to explore the philosophies and techniques that connect mind and body, through three required courses: DNC 222, DNC/THE 230, and DNC/THE 330, plus one free elective in dance. DNC 222 blends hands on, experiential learning with intellectual inquiry, guiding students to discover the relationship between their physical selves and the wider world. It also fulfills the General Education Flexible Core: Individual and Society category. From there, students build on movement and mindfulness practices in DNC/THE 230 Body and Wellness I and DNC/THE 330 Body and Wellness II. The dance elective offers flexibility and can be fulfilled with any 3-credit dance class.

TWELFTH NIGHT : A Musical Adaptation of William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night Conceived by Kwame Kwei-Armah and Shaina Taub

Named one of the best theatrical productions of 2018 by Time, The Hollywood Reporter and The Washington Post, Twelfth Night is a rousing contemporary musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic romantic comedy about mistaken identity and self-discovery. Featuring an original jazz-funk score by Shaina Taub.

Blood Wedding Auditions

Blood Wedding by Federico García Lorca in a version translated by the legendary Langston Hughes and adapted by Melia Bensussen. Internationally celebrated poet, playwright, and theatre director, García Lorca penned this powerful tragedy, weaving elements of Spanish folklore, Andalusian flamenco and Gypsy culture, and cante jondo, or “deep song,” while exploring themes of romantic love and tragedy.
