Lehman College Receives $2.1 M to Advance Nursing Education and Workforce Development

Pre-Nursing Advising

October 14, 2026

Lehman College nursing students will have new opportunities and expanded pathways to professional practice thanks to a $2.1 million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

The four-year Nursing Workforce Development initiative will support 25 newly admitted undergraduate nursing students with tuition assistance, stipends, and book fees, as well as a dedicated nursing faculty member who will serve as a mentor and adviser to participating students.

“We are thrilled about this investment into our nursing program,” said Elgloria Harrison, dean of the School of Health Sciences, Human Services, and Nursing. “This funding comes at the perfect time as we continue to strengthen and grow our nursing program, support our students, and prepare them to meet the workforce needs of our health care partners.”

The initiative builds on the College’s broader efforts to develop a workforce that increases health accessibility for all New Yorkers.

“This investment will allow us to provide students with comprehensive support from the time they enter the nursing program through graduation, licensure preparation, and their transition into professional nursing practice,” said Natasha Nurse-Clarke, chair of the Department of Nursing. “For many of our students, financial challenges are only one part of the journey. By combining financial assistance with faculty mentoring and academic support, we remove barriers to success while strengthening the pipeline of highly prepared nurses serving The Bronx and surrounding communities.”

The grant marks another step in the College’s continued investment in nursing education, following the 2024 opening of the College’s $95 million Nursing Education, Research, and Practice Center.
