Lehman College and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services are proud to announce a partnership promoting the Pathways to Public Service Recruitment program (PTPS). The program aims to create internships and career opportunities designed to empower and advance Lehman College students and alumni who are pursuing careers in public service. This type of strategic collaboration is new to the agency.

The three-year partnership will contribute to enriching students’ educational experience and equip them with the tools and resources needed for their personal and professional development. 

“The signing of this agreement is an important step in ensuring we provide our students access to career pathways that will propel them towards a fulfilling and rewarding profession,” said Lehman President Fernando Delgado. “We are excited about the possibilities this partnership presents and the positive impact it will have on our students, while fostering a more inclusive and diverse talent pool for the federal government.”

Falling under the umbrella of public health, the opportunities made available through PTPS are intended to help students get their foot in the door to federal service, with the option to continue or advance into other disciplines. 

“Bringing the Pathways to Public Service Program to Lehman College will build a sustainable and productive relationship with the institution by providing Lehman students with opportunities for internships and entry-level positions,” said the program’s creator Lisa Lewis Person, COO for the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT.

The College’s Career Exploration and Development Center will play a key role in implementing the initiative by overseeing the activities supported by PTPS, including career fairs, professional development workshops, coaching services, and mentorships.

“This partnership will afford us the opportunity to engage and prepare students for professional opportunities through an established career pipeline,” said Bascillia Toussaint, director of the Center. “They can face significant obstacles to certain fields and employment sectors, and PTPS will offer them the advantage they need to thrive.”
