William Lehman Lash, a former board member and chair of Herbert H. Lehman College Foundation, passed away on September 7, 2024.  He leaves behind a legacy of remarkable leadership and commitment to the success of Lehman students, and his visionary guidance and dedication greatly advanced the work of the Foundation, which raises and oversees student scholarship funds and an endowment of nearly $8 million.

He served on the Foundation board for nearly a decade.

With a jovial, larger-than-life personality, Lash had a passion for the College’s mission and the humanitarian values of his great-grandfather Herbert H. Lehman, the College’s namesake—all of which informed his work to support Lehman students.

The contributions he made went beyond time and money. With a dynamic and creative approach to fundraising, he employed his considerable auctioneering talents onstage during at least one of the Foundation galas.

“Bill’s energy and enthusiasm were instrumental in shaping the growth and success of the Foundation, and his efforts will continue to impact the college community, and especially its students, well into the future,” said Lehman College President Fernando Delgado.

Lash was 52 and is survived by his wife Jamie, siblings, and his parents Stephen and Wendy Lehman Lash, longtime supporters of the College.
