Biography

Professor Vanderbilt has more than twenty years of experience in early childhood education as a teacher, curriculum director and coach in private, public and Head Start programs. She was a project director of the Public Education Association's high school reform and parent and community school board elections projects. She came to Lehman in 2014 with the Early Childhood PDI's UPK Scholars program. She has worked as a Professional Development Liaison in several schools in the Bronx and grew up near Lehman College. Her research interests are in the history of early childhood, the history of the Bronx and the work and untold stories of women in the teaching profession. Vanderbilt holds a PhD from the CUNY Graduate Center in Urban Education.
