Dr. Deirdre Pettipiece came to Lehman College from West Chester University, where she was Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences. At West Chester, Dr. Pettipiece supported faculty development, external affairs and community development, budget management, and strategic planning for the College of Arts and Sciences, where she also successfully coauthored applications for over $2.75 million in grants. Earlier, she chaired the Department of Communication and Modern Languages at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Pettipiece received her Ph.D. in English with an emphasis on scientific writing from Arizona State University (ASU). She subsequently joined the faculty at ASU, creating and teaching its first hybrid and online literature courses and co-authoring the handbook Teaching and Learning in the Electronic Classroom.

She has written on a wide range of topics, including Sex Theories and the Shaping of Two Moderns: Hemingway and H.D. (Routledge, 2002) that focuses on the infusion of evolutionary reading and language in the works of the legendary authors Ernest Hemingway and Hilda Doolittle.

Over the years, Dr. Pettipiece has taught interdisciplinary and professional writing courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels at Northern Arizona University, Central Arizona College, South Mountain Community College, the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, and Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. In addition to her deanship at Lehman, she holds a full professorship in the Department of English.
