Research Interests:

Dr. Seiger-Gardner, is an ASHA certified and New York State licensed speech-language pathologist. Her clinical and research interests focus on child language development and disorders. More specifically, in the last decade Dr. Seiger-Gardner’s research focused on word-finding difficulties in children with Specific Language Impairment (SLI). Treating children with word–finding difficulties and considering the scarcity of remedial programs specifically aimed to treat the locus of breakdown in the lexical system that cause word-finding difficulty inspired Dr. Seiger-Gardner’s research. In multiple experiments (see attached curriculum vita), using on-line and off-line techniques, Dr. Seiger-Gardner has been examining the semantic and phonological organization of the mental lexicon in these children and the possible loci of breakdowns in lexical access and processing that may underlie word finding difficulties. Dr. Seiger-Gardner’s long term goal is to develop a better understanding of the lexical limitations of children with SLI that will allow her to construct more focused remedial programs to facilitate the word-finding difficulties and other lexical limitations they exhibit.
