Dr. B Waid (they/them/elle) is a Doctoral Lecturer of Mathematics Education in the Middle and High School Education Department at Lehman College. They obtained their PhD in Mathematics Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Dr. Waid has been teaching for over 15 years, with experiences at several New York and New Jersey based universities and formerly worked as a middle and high school mathematics teacher in both New York City and Central Florida.

As a queer, disabled, Latinx scholar, activist, and educator, Dr. Waid’s research and teaching is focused on the ways in which students' intersectional identities manifest in mathematical spaces and how to re/humanize mathematics for all students through the use of critical, queer, and anti-racist pedagogy, as well as a lens of disability justice. Dr. Waid is the founder of The Queer Mathematics Teacher (QMT), a mathematics consulting firm focused on supporting teachers to understand how to adopt an intersectional, queer lens in the teaching and learning of mathematics. They are also the co-founder of Radical Pedagogy Institute, a professional development organization for teachers, and an elected board member for TODOS: Mathematics for ALL.

Finally, Dr. Waid is the creator and Program Director for “Camp” of Mathematical Queeries, a 5-week virtual mathematics enrichment, for (predominantly) 2SLGBTQIA+ students entering grades 9-12. “Camp” is designed as a space in which 2SLGBTQIA+ students’ mathematical and queer identities are celebrated and provides opportunities for youth to engage in mathematical problem posing and solving through group worthy tasks centered on 2SLGBTQIA+ culture and history.
