Alexander Capellan Moronta: Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine: Class of 2025

Alexander immigrated to the U.S. at age 18, having completed a semester of medical school in his native Dominican Republic. He spent his weekends working as a machine operator for a luggage shrink-wrapping company and his weekdays as a full-time English as a Second Language student at Lehman. Alexander was admitted into the Lehman Scholars Program, conducted research on the synthesis of tripeptide sequences for the development of radiotherapeutic drugs, and joined the Pathways to Student STEM Success program and SMART MDs. He also prioritized service, volunteering in the emergency department at New York-Presbyterian Allen Hospital and starting Navidad Para Todos, a nonprofit that provides Christmas Eve dinners for the needy in his hometown, La Vega. After graduating summa cum laude in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, he enrolled at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine. Alexander obtained a master’s degree in interdisciplinary studies in biological and physical sciences and was admitted into the school’s medical program.
