Children & Teen swimming lessons help swimmers of all ages and skill levels master the five developmental components of swimming: comfort, coordination, technique, endurance and speed. All swimming classes are offered at the Olympic-sized swimming pool in Lehman College’s APEX, a state-of-the-art sports complex.
Swim Lessons for Children and Teens
Swimming I for Ages 6-8
For children, ages 6-8, with no experience or minimal experience in the water, this course covers fundamental skills including breathing, floating and crawlstroke. Water safety is emphasized. Swim cap required. Enrollment limited.
Swimming I for Ages 9-12
For children, ages 9-12, with no experience or minimal experience in the water, this course covers fundamental skills including breathing, floating and crawlstroke. Water safety is emphasized. Swim cap required. Enrollment limited.
Swimming II for Ages 8-15
A continuation of Swimming I for Young People. NOTE: To enroll, students must be able to swim 15 yards and be comfortable in deep water. Includes elementary backstroke, treading water, improvement of crawlstroke and simple diving. Water safety is emphasized. Swim cap required. Prerequisite: Swimming I or permission. Enrollment limited.

Swimming Policies at APEX
The following policies have been developed to maintain security and ensure the safety of participants in the swimming classes at the APEX pool. Please follow these rules at all times. Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in exclusion from attending class(es) in the APEX
ALL STUDENTS that are CHILDREN must be accompanied by an adult.
Adult students using the pool outside of class time must pay $10.00* at the APEX entrance.
ALL STUDENTS must use the LOCKER ROOMS for changing and disrobing into swimming apparel. (Bathing suits and swim trunks of nylon and nylon/lycra are required; close fitting swim shirts (Rash guards/Sun Shirts) are allowed; no T-shirts; swim caps if hair is longer than 4”).
DISROBING is prohibited in the common areas of the APEX, including hallways, stairwells, and thespectator balcony.
ALL STUDENTS must SHOWER before leaving the locker room to enter the pool area.
ALL STUDENTS must ENTER and EXIT the pool area by way of the locker room and rear hallway. (Parents/guardians shall drop off and pick up students at the rear entry door).
ALL STUDENTS must report to the seating area at deckside and await the instructor’s directions. NO STUDENT is permitted to enter the pool without the instructor present.
RUNNING and HORSEPLAY are strictly prohibited. All pool decks are slippery; please exercise caution whenever walking on wet surfaces.
PARENTS / GUARDIANS may sit in the pool balcony or main hallway areas by walking around through the locker room and Main Floor lobby while class is in progress; exception: balcony seating may be unavailable in the case of events in the pool.
Walking on the deck in street clothing is strictly prohibited. Pick up students at the rear entry doors through the locker room and rear hallway.
