Alexander Melamid
was born in 1945 in Moscow, Russia and trained at the Moscow Art School and the Stroganov Institute of Art and Design. Melamid's first collaborative lecture / performance with Vitaly Komar was in 1965 and since that time they have worked together and exhibited widely both in this country and abroad. Liberty as Justice and Liberty can be seen in the main lobby of the new Bronx Housing Court. Other works by Komar and Melamid can be seen in New York at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.
