Skowmon Hastanan
was born in Thailand, raised in Bangkok, and in 1973 moved to New York City where she currently lives and works. Hastanan, who received her BFA from the School of Visual Arts, is a mixed media artist who has won several public art commissions including a faceted glass design project for the 233rd Street train station of the #2 and #5 Bronx subway lines, New York City MTA Arts for Transit program; In / Flux, an installation project for Asian Arts Initiatives, Chinatown, Philadelphia; and a float-glass painting project at PS 228 in Queens for the New York City Board of Education Percent for Art program.
Hastanan has participated in group and one person exhibitions including the Monk Gallery, NYC; the Center of Photography at Woodstock, NY; Pier 2 Arts District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan; Jamaica Center for Arts, NYC; Gallery 4A, Sydney, Australia; Longwood Art Gallery, NY; The Bronx Museum of the Arts, Bronx, NY; and The New Museum, NYC. She is a member of Godzilla: Asian American Arts Network and has collaborated with EMPOWER Foundation, Thailand, a center for the protection of the rights of women in the entertainment sector.
