Art 112 is an intensive fundamentals course with the goal of familiarizing the students to the process of digital imaging. In today’s modern world, we are consistently barraged with visual imagery on a daily basis. We will look at the history and process of graphic design and the impact of digital imaging on society while learning to distinguish good design using examples from important professional figures and design movements. By tackling industry standard programs, Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator, the students will apply the principles they have learned to create their own work. The students will gain confidence through individual design assignments and the final group project –designing a website for the program and building it with Dreamweaver.
Carlo Diego (°1980, Eagle Pass, TX, United States) creates multi-media artworks, installations, and films. By using popular themes such as sexuality, social structure and violence, Diego touches various overlapping themes and strategies. Several reoccurring ideas and motifs can be recognized, such as the relationship between popular culture and media, working with repetition, provocation and the investigation of the process of expectations. His works demonstrate how life extends beyond its own subjective limits and often tells a story about the effects of global cultural interaction over the latter half of the twentieth century. It challenges the binaries we continually reconstruct between Self and Other, between our own ‘cannibal’ and ‘civilized’ selves. Carlo Diego currently lives and works in Brooklyn.

Hi, my name is Ishrat Chowdhury!!! I am a future graduate of Central Park East High School in 2020 and have just turned 16. Art is an incredible and deep passion of mine which is why I decided to choose Digital Imaging as my course for College Now. Having the opportunity to engage in img/ART112photoshop and other adobe products hands on is an extremely wonderful blessing and I am certain that any person with an interest in design will love this course as much as I do. I am also a lover of all things floral as well as a lover of fashion, emo rap, poetry, movies and cats. Being raised in the Bronx and as a Muslim, I enjoy spending my leisure time expressing my ideas through creating art.

Manuela Frias is 15 years old and attends Bronx Academy of Health Careers. She had previously attended a course in the spring through Lehman’s College Now program (which she highly recommends), and because she enjoyed it so much, she joined the summer program for Digital Imaging. The fine arts have always been a hobby of hers, so deciding which class to enroll in was fairly easy. To put it mildly this summer has been a wonderful experience for her. The class is able to be creative and show their artistic abilities in their work which she really enjoyed. Although at times the tasks were challenging, she never felt overwhelmed with confusion because the teacher and the TA were always eager to help. She believes that anyone interested in furthering their knowledge of the arts should join the College Now program for Multimedia Arts. Using the knowledge and experience that she has gained from the program, Manuela Frias plans on creating impactful pieces of art that can inspire future artists and make powerful statements that can change society.

Stephanie’s goal is to someday become an art teacher. Although that may not be a huge goal, she believes art should be shared with the world. Art is something that unites humans beings and provides hope for a better future in this world.
My name is Cecilia Guzman, and I’m a rising senior at the Young Women’s Leadership School Of The Bronx. I am always up for an adventure and exploring new things. I am very open-minded and enjoy helping other people. I consider myself a very creative and artistic person. Photography is one of my favorite hobbies, since it allows me to express my ideas and point of view to other people in different ways. I also love the way in which you are able to capture a single moment in a picture and keep proof of a time and place from your life and let other people witness the moment. Through this course, I was able to expand my photography skills by incorporating it with my pictures.

I enrolled in this program to better myself and to have a head start in college. My favorite activities other than sports are spending time with my friends and being in the outdoors. I have a large place in my heart for nature, one of the reasons that I’m a boy scout. My greatest weakness other than food and sleep is my pride and learning humility but as I don’t grow in stature, I grow in maturity.

Hello, I am David Salcedo a 17 year old Dominican American living in the Bronx. For as long as I can remember I have been in love with art and design so it only made sense to attend this Digital Imaging class. Learning img/ART112photoshop and other Adobe services has been a fun process that has granted me more tools which can be used in my future to create what I want. In my free time I practice guitar, drawing, writing, and programming. I want to be a ‘Jack of all Trades’, creating what I want, when I want, without my skills being a limiting factor. This class has been a lot of fun for me and I implore anyone interested in graphic design to take the course. Shout outs to my cat Mina.

My name is Leslie Villegas. I’m a person with an active mind running 24/7. I play soccer in a club and I enjoy reading books and drawing. I’m called Rompetuti by my teammates and Leslie by others. I’m very cheerful and excited to learn new things. I’m also going to be the first in my family to go to college. However, I still don’t know what to do with my life because there are many good options. I took this class so I would see if I enjoyed design as much as I thought I did in order to pursue a career in it. As of now I think I do but I’m only 16 years old and things can change. But time will tell and decide the rest.
