Special Collections

The Special Collections Division of the Library (Room 230) contains such Lehman records as yearbooks, catalogs, newspapers, reports, photographs and memorabilia. Rare books and limited editions of books in various disciplines are also housed in the Division's temperature and humidity controlled environment.

The Jose Luis Ponce de Leon Collection contains some 350 books supplemented by journals and special issues on the Spanish Civil War and its writers in exile. Additionally, the Division holds the Bronx Institute Archives. These materials include taped oral history interviews, local history books, maps and atlases, newspapers, clippings, postcards, photographs, slides and documents.

Recently Special Collections has created two Digital Collections:

Contains digitized photographs, articles, and minutes from the Bronx Chamber of Commerce Collection (Digital METRO New York project, 2006)
Childhood in the Bronx Childhood in the Bronx
Contains digitized contemporary photographs by Georgeen Comerford and vintage images, with oral history sound excerpts, from the Collections of the Bronx Institute Archives of the Leonard Lief Library (Digital METRO New York project, 2009)
