Therman Statom
glass artist, painter, and sculptor, was born in 1953 in Winterhaven, Florida. Statom studied glass blowing at the Pilchuck Glass School, Stanwood, WA and graduated in 1971. He received a BFA in Sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design, and an MFA in Sculpture from the Pratt Institute of Art and Design in Brooklyn, NY. He is best known for his works of glued window glass, painted surfaces, blown or cast glass objects, and attached found objects. Statom has created over a dozen site-specific installations in New York, Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. He has received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, The City of Los Angeles 1997-98 Cultural Grant, and the American Craft Council Award, among others. Statom's work has been exhibited at the William Traver Gallery, Seattle, WA; Lowe Museum, University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL; Gail Severn Gallery, Ketchum, ID; Pratt Institute of Art & Design, Brooklyn, NY; Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk, VA; Dorothy Weiss Gallery, San Francisco, CA; The Smithsonian Institute, Washington, D.C.; and the Habatat Galleries, Boca Raton, FL among many others. He continues to do public commissions and installations as well as teach.
