OPA Mission
The Office of Prestigious Awards (OPA) prepares and advises students competing for nationally competitive awards and funding to support students' scholarly engagement beyond the walls of the classroom. The office supports and guides Lehman College students and alumni through all stages of the awards’ application and selection processes. Students are able to curate stronger educational goals as a consequence of the inquiry, reflection and challenge that naturally takes place throughout the application and selection process and are thus better prepared to be successful Lehman Graduates.
The Office fulfills its mission in the following ways:
- Promoting prestigious awards awareness among the college’s students, faculty and staff
- Identifying and evaluating students interested in applying to nationally competitive awards
- Advising students on scholarly engagement opportunities including research, graduate programs, professional school, language acquisition and other scholarly and creative activities
- Preparing and supporting students as they apply to awards
- Guiding faculty and staff as they support students throughout the application and selection process
- Maintaining professional networks and knowledge about prestigious awards
OPA Vision
Our vision is that more students are aware of, eligible for, and can develop competitive applications for awards that support their research, creative projects, graduate school aspirations, language acquisition and other scholarly activities.
