MAT330 LECTURE 16 (3/25/2020): VARIANCE AND COVARIANCE
• Announcements: HW6 is due on Monday (3/30/2020) at 11:00am (beginning of class), and already available online. I am in the process of grading the Midterm exam (you will receive your grades via Blackboard) and posting solutions online, so stay tuned. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please send me an email.
• Video about Variance (definitions and example): Download file or watch below
• Video about Properties of Expected Value and Variance, ending with Covariance and Correlation (definitions): Download file or watch below
• Lecture Notes (static file from above videos): PDF file
• External link 1: Theory visualization of Expected Value and Variance. I highly recommend checking this out, since you can perform your own simulations with 100 samplings at a time (in just a couple seconds!), and see how the results compare with values predicted by the theory. These simulations are different each time they are performed; your simulated results are unique to your simulation.
