This is the best site I've encountered. Fabulous, fabulous job. Bravo - kids must love this site - it is so colorful and inviting. Parents must be thrilled that they can share their stories and their kids with others - and of course, educationally, it is superb! Keep up the fabulous work. I would like to say congratulations on having such a wonderful site. Band-Aides is one of the best pages I've come across since I got the Internet in May. I have learned a lot about different disabilities and also made a very good friend from this site. What a wonderful site! You effectively and phenomenologically I'd say, "describe" the lived experience of children going to school with an illness or disease. I think as educators we forget that these children bring these complications and baggage which at times are " invisible" Your site sure made me see and made me think a lot more about the "diversity" of experience and pain or trauma children have to live with in order to lead a healthy normal life in their childhood. Just wanted to drop you a note and
say that
your work is a delightful breath of fresh air helping put names and
stories
to diagnoses that these little heroes teach us so much about.
Kudos
for your creativity and commitment to nursing, education, the
I really enjoyed the combination of the music and colors and the words. I truly enjoyed the length of your writings. It was magical because once I began to read and listen to the music I felt wonderful, happy and everything was OK. It is obvious that your design did not evolve over night. You must be a beautiful person inside and a wonderful school nurse. I want you to know how much this site must be helping parents with kids who have chronic medical problems to deal with... I know that many children have difficulties living productive lives as adults because of the psychological scarring on top of the physical debilitation. Your site, I'm sure, must make a wonderful difference to these children and their parents. I stumbled upon your site in cyberspace and can't tell you how grateful I am that you have put this site together! Who would know better than the health professionals that work with kids what they really need. The difference about you is that you really understand their perspective and did something about it to help others understand them. Everyone that works with kids needs to have a hyperlink to Bandaides & Blackboards. In fact, I'm going to forward it to the school! THANK YOU AND A BIG HUG! I am a first time visitor to Band-Aides. I am so delighted to find a site that is child and parent 'friendly.' Thank you!!!!!!! Well Done!! I cannot tell you how wonderful it was to find your site. I am a peds nurse with many years behind me...your site is an invaluable source of info for myself and of course for the children I work with... Keep up the stellar work. I love your website! Format, presentation, stories, graphics, etc. I can imagine that this is a 25yr ‘book’ project. I don’t know how to thank you for your wonderful web site. I am the mother of a thirteen year old daughter who has a severe case of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. I had to go to her school this morning to talk to the counselor and the principal about some classmates who are teasing her because they think she is “faking it” for attention and to get out of class. As if she would want to pretend to have such a cruel disease. I came home and got online to try to find something that could connect her to other children with similar circumstances, since we recently moved to a very small town and she feels very isolated with her condition. When I found your site I couldn’t stop reading the stories and information and encouragement it provides. I can’t wait to share it with her. Thank you so, so much. Congratulations on an absolutely terrific web site. I only wish that it had been available fifty years ago, for me. My deep gratitude for your time... This is a beautiful site that I just stumbled across...thanks so much! Just a quick message to say your website is TERRIFIC! What a wonderful, innovative way to help children cope with being hospitalized. I have used Bandaides and Blackboards with students, parents and staff and have found it invaluable. This ability to access you for advice further adds to my admiration for the site and for you who maintain it so well. I think that each time I access the site, it has been updated. I will continue to recommend the site to other families and those who support them. I came across your site today and felt blessed. I work as a School Psychologist in a public middle school. I also teach in a graduate program for guidance counselors. you have created a wonderful gift to us all. Thank you! Best page? I have to be in honest in saying that I loved every page that I looked at. Your website is wonderful and it should be something that you are very proud of. I just wanted to tell you that it is the greatest. I have just discovered your website and I am so impressed. It is so useful to me on many levels...It is wonderful that you have created such a needed resource for the kids, their parents, and educators. The site is fantastic, both technically and philosophically, and I just wanted to tell you that. It is a tremendous example of what the web can be, and should be. I have just looked at your website and find it very addicting. I am sitting here feeling a huge ball of pain as I reflect on the childrens' stories. They really tear my heart right out. It is very difficult to understand why the world can be so cruel to such wonderful children. Their strength seems to shine right off the page! I just want to give them all a big hug. Thank you very much for your insight and willingness to provide an outlet for our children. I work in Orkney Islands - north of Scotland, and thought I'd send you just a wee note to say that I found your site (Band-Aides & Blackboards) great - in terms of information & 'hearing' the 'kids' perspectives... This is a great website...such a useful tool to direct our little patients and their families to. Thank you for your dedication to children and for providing this site to improve their quality of life for them I just wanted you to know that I think you put together a great web site and I hope a lot of people use it. I am a mother of a child cancer survivor who was only expected to live 6 months. He is now 29 yrs. old and healthy. He is my "miracle". When he was diagnosed at 7 yrs. of age and I was introduced to the world of "children with cancer" I had never realized that there were so many children with this disease. I became a nurse not too long after going through this experience and feel you have really contributed something very worthwhile...where other children, teens and parents can exchange their comments and feelings. I just had to let you know . It's so nice to see a site I can come to and cry at because someone knows how painful it can be for the child and parents. Thank you so much. I had to write you and tell you...you have one of the best web sites I have ever come across in all my days of researching!! The colors, design, everything is so clever. Not only that, but the purpose of the site is a great idea. Thank you for taking the time to design such a pleasant place for kids to go as well as those of us who work with children. I just came across your site last night and I wanted to let you know that it has the distinction of being THE BEST website I've ever visited! I'm a 16 year old girl dealing with a chronic illness and it made me feel SO much better to read all those stories of other teens coping with the same problems. It's really important to increase awareness about kids with medical problems, especially the "invisible ones" that you mention, among "healthy" kids, and this site does just that. I hope that by visiting, they will begin to understand what it feels like to be on the other side, to be sick all the time with no break. I'm going to tell tons of people about this site! I think EVERYONE, young or old, sick or healthy, should take a good look at it and read over most of the sections. Most people I know would really benefit from knowing all this stuff. The world, or at least my own little world, would be a better place if people would take the time to do that. This is a wonderful site! It is truly uplifting to read these testimonials. I learned so much! It is so good for children to realize they are not alone when facing problems. Tonight I happened across the awesome website that you have created. I couldn't stop reading, and the stories made me laugh and cry and remember. Thank you so much for giving a forum to those who so often don't have a voice. This is an amazing site. I am a teacher of a multiage, inclusion class, and I am also getting my masters degree in curriculum. I was exploring some issues for my class, hoping to find some new ideas for teaching acceptance and diversity. This is the most incredible resource, for so many reasons for me! Thank you!!! I just happened to stumble upon your website by accident, and it just so happens that I am the older sister of a little boy with leukemia (ALL). I think your website is great, I was looking through it and so many things are so familiar to me (reading the sibling stories was like reliving my own experiences). I just wanted to tell you that your website is wonderful, I've never seen anything like it, with so much useful information for kids and families and not all of that medical junk that we're all sick of by now. The stories of others really touched me because I can totally connect with each and every one of them in my own way. You can't understand what the kids and siblings are going through unless you go through it yourself, and this site lets kids know that there is other people out there who have gone through it and made it. Thanks for the chance to know that I'm not alone out there in the world of cancer. I wanted to thank you for this wonderful site! My daughter has juvenile diabetes and I am sure that she can relate to many of the things that were said here. I know I can... |
