Now here comes the
REALLY interesting part! When I was in the hospital, I wasn't having much
fun because I couldn't always go to the playroom and visit the other kids.
At least I could get mail! I felt bad for some of the kids who didn't get
much mail and for those who didn't have very many visitors. That's when
I thought that a newsletter would be great for hospitalized kids to share
feelings, stories, and ideas.
I started collecting material
from my friends and kids on-line during the winter of `93 - `94 and decided
to put it together in a newsletter. I was interviewed on-line by author/producer
Alan Goodman for his book Nickelodeon's 'Big Help Book'. If you subscribe
to the kids magazine ' National Geographic World', you'll see me and my
BearPals in the January 1996 issue. So that's the beginning of my idea.
Now I'm the Editor and Webmaster of this national hospital newsletter called
"Bearable
Times!"
I'm going to be 14 on October
6. Can't wait, I'm goin' into high school! My hobbies are: goin' online,
writing, reading, listenin' to music, and just hangin' out. I like designin'
my fingernails! I love to play soccer and I like basketball, but I can't
play it very good. I also ice skate. My favorite kind of music is rap and
slow jams. I love watchin' MTV Jams with Bill Bellamy. I also love to eat
Reese's Peanut Buttercups! I collect Teddy Bears and cool keychains!
I have never really thought
of myself as handicapped or disabled. I try not to complain when I feel
sick. I just try, I always do my best! Sometimes things are difficult--I
get tired, feel sad, sick, . . . but as the saying goes "Just Do It!"
