All Lehman College non-essential staff began working remotely Wednesday, March 18. After Gov. Cuomo announced a "New York State on PAUSE" executive order on Friday, March 20, only approved, designated, essential personnel will be admitted to campus going forward by appointment.
Before You Come to Campus: Return-to-Work Training (Required)
Effective immediately, any essential employees who have been working on campus or non-essential employees scheduled to work, visit or be on campus for any amount of time are required, prior to coming to campus, to take the mandatory New York State COVID-19 Response: Return-to-Work training. The training is available on Blackboard, under My Organizations. Employees can access Blackboard here. Your CUNYfirst user name and password is required to login to Blackboard (ex. firstname.lastname@example.org). Please contact Human Resources at email@example.com, if you do not have access to Blackboard so that you may arrange training. Training must be completed prior to your scheduled visit.
Self-Monitoring for COVID-19 Symptoms (Required)
The morning of your scheduled visit, you also must complete and submit a COVID-19 self-screening prior to coming to campus.The self-screening tool can be accessed here. If an employee answers yes to any questions they must not come to campus and will not be given access.
New York State requires employers to screen employees for COVID-19 symptoms before the employee can enter the workplace each day. The screening is not a medical diagnosis of COVID-19, the screening is to determine whether the employee can report to the campus.
The screening takes only a few minutes and the online form can be accessed using a computer or mobile device. Employees should follow the instructions at the bottom section of the self-screening tool regarding whether they should report to the campus. If the employee answers “No” to all the COVID-19 symptoms questions, they can report to the campus. If an employee answers “Yes” to one or more of the COVID-19 symptoms questions, they may not come to campus. Instead, they should alert the screener for their department/division. Screeners are required to notify Human Resources when an employee reports answering “Yes” to one or more COVID-19 symptoms. HR will follow-up with the employee.
Employees are expected to comply with the self-screening even if they will only be on campus for a short time. An employee who reports to work exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 will immediately be isolated and sent home. If it is confirmed that an employee has COVID-19 or has been in contact with someone who has COVID-19, the work area will be closed temporarily to permit cleaning and disinfection. The department manager will provide guidance about where employees should report pending the reopening of the office.
TEMPORARY FLEXIBLE WORK ARRANGEMENTS
Following CUNY guidance, staff should consult with their managers about working their regular daily hours on a flexible schedule while the campus has transitioned to remote working environments.
Managers should consult with Human Resources for guidance on expectations for work assignments, check-ins, and other parameters relevant to supporting a remote arrangement.
Common items for managers to discuss with staff include:
- Frequency of connection with manager
- Frequency of checking email
- Other communication expectations (i.e., team members, external contacts)
- Hours of availability
- Areas of focus during remote work

Microsoft Office 365 for Education
This a robust collaboration suite that is available to all faculty and staff. Teams is especially useful as a shared workspace for video conferencing and team collaboration.
This is a cloudbased file-sharing app. Faculty and staff have unlimited storage. Use your CUNYfirst credentials to login.
This platform enables online meetings, with video and audio conferencing. You can make calls, share your screen, present information, and annotate shared documents or whiteboards. Use your CUNYfirst credentials to login.

Note on Using Zoom
Recently, several Lehman Zoom meetings were hacked by external parties. Due to recent security and privacy concerns, CUNY no longer recommends the use of Zoom. Lehman will seek to reduce Zoom as the semester ends. Although the app has now been updated with stronger security features, please consider using alternative platforms such as MS Teams or WebEx as videoconferencing platforms.
In addition, we recommend that you institute the following measures to create a secure videoconferencing environment for online meetings:
- Do not make meetings public. Instead, require a meeting password or use the waiting room/lobby feature.
- Provide the meeting link directly to specific participants.
- Set screen-sharing defaults to “Host Only.”
- Request that participants use updated versions of meeting apps.
We advise everyone who learns of abuses occurring on videoconferencing platforms being used for remote work/learning to share those with firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please remain vigilant when reviewing email and do not click on links or attachments from unknown sources. Expect new exploits using COVID-19-related themes. These may appear to come from a trustworthy source. In several examples, phishing emails contain links to a fake email login page. Others appear to come from the human resources department or an administrator requesting that faculty or staff members open an infected attachment. As such, please make sure your antivirus software is up-to-date. Examples of current phishing email subject lines include:

While most phishing attempts are sent via email, we are now seeing an increase in SMS text phishing messages, as well. Please contact the IT division should you need assistance at email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Help Desk Assistance
For assistance, contact the IT help desk by email at email@example.com, Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., Friday-Sunday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (Hours subject to change). The current climate has emboldened phone and email scammers. The Lehman community has already been subject to several phishing attempts through spoofed IT email addresses. Please expect more of these attacks as scammers seek to exploit the college during this period. Only the technology-related emails sent from known IT staff members or from the ITR-Announce listserv should be deemed as legitimate. Please inspect all the fields of an incoming message before clicking on a link or downloading an attachment.
Protect yourself using these tips:
- Do not open attachments or click links within emails from senders you don't recognize.
- Do not provide your username, password, date of birth, social security number, financial data, or other personal information in response to any email.
- Verify the web address of legitimate websites and manually type them into your browser.
- Check for misspellings or wrong domains within an email and within links
- Make sure that your virus/malware protection software is up-to-date.
Modified Mailroom and Central Receiving Schedule
For essential staff who are still working on campus, please note that the mailroom and Central Receiving schedule has been modified to Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
There will be no mail/package delivery at this time. NYC Department of Health Guidelines
New York, stay home. Healthy or sick, all New Yorkers must stay home unless they are essential workers or need urgent health care.
Social Distancing Rules in New York State
An order from the Governor requires every New Yorker to stay at home from work, unless they are an essential worker. All non-essential businesses that are normally open to the public must remain closed. Bars and restaurants may provide takeout. All non-essential gatherings of any size for any reason are banned. The police may issue fines to anyone they see in public not following these rules.
New Guidance on Face Coverings
People who do not show symptoms may still be able to spread COVID-19. A face covering can help prevent you from spreading COVID-19 to other people, so you should wear one whenever you leave the home.
A face covering can include anything that covers your nose and mouth, including dust masks, scarves and bandanas. Do not use health care worker masks, as those must be preserved for people in the health care system.
Even if you have a face covering, continue to stay home as much as possible and avoid close contact with other people.
