To the Lehman College Class of 2020,
Congratulations on making it to this day—your college graduation. Like most of you, back in March, I didn’t quite believe that this how we would be gathering on this day—online and not on campus with our friends and families, the people whose support was so critical to our success. Like you, this is not exactly how I had imagined my senior year was going to end. But I’ve realized that all the characteristics that this moment has required of us are exactly what we, the students of Lehman College, have embodied every day of our college careers: Resiliency, perseverance, drive, and most of all—heart.
We didn’t want this challenge our senior year, but we met it—with courage and conviction. Regardless of how you began your college journey, you’ve earned your place here today as a graduate of the Lehman College Class of 2020. Each of you, in your own way and regardless of your individual challenges, have demonstrated to everyone that your dreams are the one thing that cannot be canceled. You have given it your all and made it to this day undefeated. The ultimate 2020 challenge is now part of your story--that’s bold!
The French poet, journalist and novelist, Anatole France, once said, “To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe.”
The world now offers itself to you, full of challenges, yes but also full of opportunities. With flexibility, passion and imagination, you are uniquely prepared to find them, and if you cannot find them, you now have the tools to create them. Our communities need us, and we are prepared and willing to serve. No one knows what the future may bring, but if you remember to always listen to that inner voice, the one that tells you to keep going, you will always find success.
On behalf of Student Government, Congratulations!
