Upon completion of the B.S. in Health Services Administration, graduates will be able to do the following:
Goal I: Describe the U.S. health care delivery system.
To accomplish this goal, students will be able to:
- List historical events that shaped present-day health care delivery
- Discuss health services organization and delivery.
- Conduct a scan to lacate political events and key legislation affecting health care.
Goal II: Demonstrate knowledge of the management of health care organizations.
To accomplish this goal, students will be able to:
- Identify theories of organizational structure.
- Describe the functions of health care organizations.
- Discuss major issues currently confronting health care administrators.
Goal III: Identify manage health care concepts.
To accomplish this goal, students will be able to:
- Discuss the principles of managed care.
- Describe the history and present status of Medicare and Medicaid.
- Work collaboratively and deliver a presentation on a group research project.
Goal IV: Utilize statistics in health care
To accomplish this goal, students will be able to:
- Utilize statistical methods as applied to the health field.
- Define data collection, organization, analysis, and presentation of information.
- Apply concepts learned to perform data analysis
Goal V: Demonstrate knowledge of Human Resources functions in Health Services.
To accomplish this goal, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of recruiting, selecting, training, evaluating, performance, and compensating employees.
- Utilize computer and library resources to conduct research.
- Prepare and deliver a presentation on Human Resources and Labor Relations.
Goal VI: Describe financial aspects of health care administration.
To accomplish this goal, students will be able to:
- Describe economic issues and trends affecting health care.
- Identify resource allocation and distribution within the health care system.
- Apply the skills learned to create a sample budget for a health care organization.
Goal VII: Demonstrate application of epidemiology concepts to current issues in health.
To accomplish this goal, students will be able to:
- Define the basic principles of epidemiology.
- Identify the determinants of health and disease.
- Examine current influences on societal health.
Goal VIII: Identify concepts of research and program evaluation in health services administration
To accomplish this goal, students will be able to:
- Identify concepts of research and program evaluation in Health Services.
- Differentiate quantitative and qualitative research methods.
- Discuss and debate ethical issues in research and evaluation.
Goal IX: Analyze planning and strategic management in health services administration.
To accomplish this goal, students will be able to:
- Compare and contrast theories of strategic management.
- Apply concepts of strategic planning to case studies.
- Define concepts in marketing health care organizations.
Goal X: Integrate conceptual academic learning with practical experience in health services in a health care setting.
To accomplish this goal, students will be able to:
- Participate in the designated number of hours performing for workplace-supervised activity in a health care setting.
- Participate in a seminar to discuss personal attributes that contribute to a health services administration career with his/her instructor and peers.
- Identify specific steps toward obtaining employment and/or career advancement.
