Tutoring Support

SYI has partnered with the Instructional Support Services Program (ISSP).  ISSP comprises the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) and the Science Learning Center (SLC).  Students who are seeking additional support in writing or the Social Sciences will be assigned a tutor at the ACE.  Students pursuing the natural sciences may receive tutoring support at the Science Learning Center (SLC).

What should I do if I need a Tutor?

First and foremost, contact your Academic Advisor to schedule an appointment to discuss the difficulty you are having with your coursework.  Your Advisor will discuss strategies to help you improve your performance and will recommend resources to support your success.

If you would like to apply for a humanities, social science, or writing tutor at the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE), you will need to complete an application and follow the instructions at the following link: Tutor Request Form

If you would like to apply for a science learning tutor, you will need to apply in person at the Science Learning Center (SLC) in Gillet Hall, room 133, any time during our regular hours to apply for tutoring.  For more information, please follow the link to the Science Learning Center (SLC).

For basic Math tutoring (including CUNY Assessment in Mathematics prep) and for information about the Math Lab's hours, please go to the Mathematics Department's Math Lab in Gillet Hall, Room 222. The Math Lab may be reached by phone at 718-960-8878.
