Student Clubs

The Sophomore Year Initiative (SYI) and the Office of Student Life teamed up to create and support Pre-Major Clubs at Lehman including: Pre-Law, Pre-Nursing, Pre-Business, Psychology, Computer Science & Mathematics, Pre-Dance. The Pre-Major Clubs were open to all students, but are intended for freshmen and sophomores who are undeclared and are considering various majors and/or field of interest. Club Membership includes a welcome event, a panel discussion to learn about relevant majors, a class trip, and various workshops with guest speakers!

Students in the Pre-Major Clubs will receive guidance from a faculty advisor and will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn more about the desired field such as values and skills, myths and realities in the field, and alternative career directions for students interested in the intended field;
  • Receive Academic Preparation by finding out program requirements and necessary prerequisites;
  • Discover internship opportunities and various out of classroom experiences;
  • Hear from Lehman faculty, professionals, and alumni in the field;
  • Participate in an off-campus trip to a professional organization; and
  • Receive guidance about tools to further explore and research the desired field as well as how to obtain professional resources/memberships, mentoring opportunities, and shadowing opportunities.
